CraigStats

CraigStats is a great statistics resource for Craigslist apartment listings in San Francisco. They’ve been running the statistics for the past year or so, and have graphs and data for average rental price for studios and bedrooms for each neighborhood, and much, much more. They also have a heat map for prices. It looks like Russian Hill and North Beach on fire, but, I would have expected SOMA to be quite hot as well.

The Heat
Nov 21, 2005

We’ve been having a sweltering November here in San Francisco. The temperatures have been in the high 70’s for the past week. Since I have south facing windows, I usually come back to a heatbox of an apartment. Usually, I leave the windows open. But then, I sometimes get this irrational fear that I would fall out of the window when I nap, since the bed is right beside it. Getting used to living in a highrise takes some time I suppose.

Around the City

Just a few shots around the city. I’ve been a little back logged lately–hoping to straighten things out on the site. I’m experimenting with larger images on my pages. Also, I will soon be shifting my domain to http://www.jamesyu.org. You’ll know when it happens.

Transport

Some interesting views in the SF transport system.

The first week of my new job has gone by. My team took me out every day of the week–quite a gastronomic tradition. I’m very excited about Dolby in general: there’s going to be lots to learn and play with.

Neighborhood

Some of the buildings in my new neighborhood (Pacific Heights). I find that San Francisco always has an interesting palette of buildings–starkly modern high-rises abutting Victorian style buildings. Personally, I find it a bit disorienting.

The bright colors of San Francisco really is a world away from NYC. From my experiences there, most of the buildings fit into one category. The colors also seem to be less bold and arresting–as if the buildings were built to be quiet and withdrawn.
