Thanks Amazon for Thinking That I’m A Hacker When Your Site is Down
Jun 6, 2008

It seems that lots of sites are down today–most notably Amazon. I can only imagine the lost revenue and heads that rolling up in Seattle.

I actually needed to purchase a book, and, after getting a few generic error pages, I was presented with this:

Amazon.com: We're sorry!

Thanks Amazon, I appreciate you thinking that I’m now a hacker when your site is down. Heaven forbid that I actually wanted to try to purchase something. I understand that your site is down, but, please, get your error pages in order. I hope for their sake that this page isn’t being widely seen.

Then, I tried to tweet about it, but twitter is down, most likely from everyone trying to tweet that Amazon is down.

The Effect of the MSFT-YHOO Bid on Aggregators
Feb 1, 2008

I woke up to the big news today that Microsoft has made a bid for Yahoo at $31 a share, a hefty premium. What I find amusing during big announcements like this is that aggregraters tend to go a little crazy.

The chart for YHOO on Google Finance is a big jumble:

And Techmeme is just one long thread about the acquisition offer:

What’s sad is that the only mention of anything MSFT or YHOO on Technorati is on the bottom of the page, way below the fold:

Come on Technorati, a big story like this should be nearer to the top!

Coke Expands Empire with Vitamin Water
May 29, 2007

Coke is buying Glaceau, the makers of Vitamin Water, for around $4 billion cash. And so Coke ungulfs yet another beverage on the supermarket shelves. Most people are shocked when they learn how many products are actually owned by Coke.

Recently, I’ve been getting into Vitamin Water. It’s marketed as pure water with vitamins. Sounds pretty good for a health conscious urbanite doesn’t it? The problem is that there’s controversy over how healthy it really is, since each 20oz container can contain up to 200 calories and 30g of sugar.

I don’t expect it to get any healthier once Coke is involved.
