STRESSED Oct 27, 2004

Too stressed to think. I’ll be back in the flow of things soon enough.

Google Desktop Oct 14, 2004

Google has done it once again. I knew this would happen. It’s the next logical choice: a desktop search.

*slaps head*

I’ve always hated window’s file find tool. It’s unbearably slow, and includes that stupid animated dog that seems to pop up every time I disable him. Kottke’s already all over it, and so is O’Reilly.

I can already think of a few ways to extend this tool. I can now theoretically make a web portal from my computer so that I can search and retrieve any file remotely. This is much more convenient than searching through a million folders, especially on a slow connection. I’m sure this is an easy hack.

Busy Beyond Belief Oct 13, 2004

I’ve been way too busy lately. I have no time for anything. No free time. Stanford is really crazy.

I was at an office hours yesterday with a TA, and this frantic guy came in the room. He started asking if the optional problems on the homework were for extra credit. The TA said it wasn’t, and only was for practice.

At this point, the frantic guy said something about how he lost points because for his other class, he did not know that the optional problems were for extra credit. Then, he proceeded to talk about how he has to get a 100% on every homework. At this point, the TA and the rest of us were chuckling: who is this guy? And why is he so anal? Homework really doesn’t account for much of the class. Then, the frantic guy said the most absurd statement:

I have to get a 100%. It’s my religion.

We about died at this point. He was dead serious. The TA asked what religion that was, but no real answer was made.

Seriously, I am frightened if all my competition at Stanford were like this guy. People like that are maniacs. After explaining this to Tippy, she said she never knew people like that even existed. I knew they existed, but I just have never seen one up close.

And at the end… Oct 2, 2004

Classes with only a final at the end make me nervous.

So I’m taking this course which has ONLY readings and one final at the end. I’m a bit apprehensive. The reading is expansive: covering lots of things from biology and engineering. It all seems to be a mishmosh of things I learned in Physiology courses and EE courses. You’d think it would be interesting, but it’s pretty dry at times.

The problem is that I probably need to take notes when I read since I won’t be studying for the final until the end of the quarter. There’s no way I’m going to remember things I’ve ready months ago. But I always hate taking notes when I read: it really does double the time.

23 Credits.
